New fabrics
I went to Durban (a large port city about 90 km from where I live) today and visited a large fabric shop there. My original plan was to go to two shops, but it took me about an hour to find the first shop, so I didn't have time to go to the second. (This is what happens if you don't look at a map before visiting a city you don't know very well.)
I discovered that they had a large stock of printed lycra, and also sold short pieces by weight. I bought some fabrics for lingerie and some for tops.
The soft brown is a viscose lycra that I want to make a strappy top from. (The colour is nicer in reality!)
The rose pink is also lycra, but with a suede-like feel to it. Also for a camisole-style top, maybe enough left over for a bra or panties.
The blue fabric is denim-look lycra with a silvery sheen to it. It is one-way stretch and will end up as a bra. Maybe with jeans-style topstitching!
The pale grey fabric is cotton knit with a teal floral border print. I thought this would work well for a top for my daughter made from the border. The colour is maybe just a little too light grey for me, but maybe I'll make a matching mother-and-daughter set. Not my usual thing, but could be fun.
I also got a nice piece of powernet and some one-way stretch tricot lining fabric that I want to try out for adding support.

Too bad you have to drive 90kms for such wonderful fabric, but better for the money :-)

Thanks Jos and Sigrid! I am looking forward to that floral set!
Liana, I went to Waste Centre at 670 Umgeni Road. I also wanted to go to Fabric and Textile Warehouse at 870 Umgeni Road, but had not time. Would love to hear of other shops that sell lingerie materials!

the other 2 shops I know of are "snippets" in Pinetown and the crafters shop in Mayville. The 2nd shop also sell beads and many kinds of lace as well as trimmings. Then there is a shop in South Coast road "Lunas" it also stock a wide varity of material, lace etc. Wast Centre has a Pinetown branch as well.

Thanks for letting me know about these shops, Liana. Much appreciated! Pinetown is much closer than Durban and I will definitely visit all of these - when bank balance allows ;-)
