Award!
Dankie Jos!
Waarom maak jij lingerie?
Ek maak nou ook vir my man, dogter en ma ondergoed omdat ek dit so geniet.
Hoelang maak jij lingerie?
Lees hier verder.
I am the lucky recipient of the Zelflingeriemaak Award from the Dutch lingerie sewing forum! I was nominated by fellow-sewist Jos, who said "Tina is a good example of how blogs and websites can bring people who share the same hobby together. With her blog she promotes lingerie sewing across country borders. She is creative and inventive with patterns and tries out everything, and keeps us informed with her clear photographs." Thanks Jos!
As part of the award, I have to answer the following questions:
Why do you sew lingerie?
I started because I have non-standard measurements (80H EU, 36F US, 14F Austr) and it has been impossible to find well-fitting bras that are not also extremely expensive. This size is not manufactured in South Africa and I have to buy imported bras.
How long have you been sewing lingerie? I Have been sewing bras since 2002, but I started getting really interested in early 2009 when I ordered a pattern in the correct size from elingeria. Up to that point I had been using a pattern I bought in South Africa, which was too small in the cup (I didn't know it at the time!).
Where/how did you learn it?

Where/how did you learn it?
I attended a half-day course at my local fabric shop in Pretoria, where I learnt the basics. I taught myself a bit more by looking at RTW bras. In 2006 I discovered Sigrid's bra-making tutorial and some articles on the Threads magazine website. I learned so much from Sigrid! Later I found the Pattern Review website and read a review of the Sewy Rebecca bra pattern (also by Sigrid!), which I subsequently bought through elingeria. Then I met Jos at a Yahoo group, and through her blog and website I discovered the whole Dutch-language world of lingerie-making, where I have learned an incredible amount, and have received excellent advice and encouragement. Later in 2009 I joined the Lingerie Sewalong organised by Sigrid(!) and that has also been a wonderful learning and teaching experience for me. Thanks Sigrid!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am continually inspired and challenged by the beautiful things I see on other sewing blogs, the Forum and the Sewalong. I also receive the Bravissimo catalogue. When I find interesting photos on the Web I save them in a folder on my computer for future reference.
Where do you buy your fabric and notions?
I don't have many shops to select from where I live, so mostly buy at my local fabric shop, Ragland. Some things like underwires and underwire casing I buy mail order from Marinique. I love the beautiful kits on sites like Kantjeboord, but due to the exchange rate and the cost of shipping, I haven't bought any of these yet.

Not surprisingly, the next recipient of the award is... Sigrid! Read more about her award here.
